In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a medical procedure where an egg is fertilized by sperm outside the body, and the resulting embryo is then implanted into the uterus.

U.S. Congress

Last week, Ted Cruz and two other senators introduced a bill to support In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) by reducing funding to states that restrict the procedure. Their goal is to balance being pro-life and pro-IVF, as they expressed in their op-ed, though they did not address the ethical concerns about discarded embryos. Meanwhile, with the costs of IVF rising, more Americans are looking overseas for these treatments, reflecting the growing demand for IVF services.

Department of State

The spokesperson for the Department of State, Matthew Miller, said, “The United States condemns” Georgia’s passage of a law that would require non-governmental groups and media organizations that receive at least 20 percent of their funding from abroad to register as organizations “pursuing the interests of a foreign power.” Last week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that “anyone who undermines democratic processes or institutions in Georgia and their immediate family members may be found ineligible for U.S. visas” under a new policy and warned that the U.S. “will take Georgia Dream’s actions into account as we decide our own.”
