Petition to Defend the Holy See at the UN & Other Stories

United Nations

🗞 Defend the Holy See at the UN! Catholics for Choice openly attacked the Vatican at a UN Women’s Conference and asked for its removal from the UN. “It has started again. Efforts are now underway to kick the Vatican out of the UN General Assembly. Losing the Holy See at the UN would be a disaster for the unborn child and the family. This effort is being led by the heretical but powerful group ‘Catholics’ for Choice funded by millions of dollars from anti-life foundations,” wrote Austin Ruse, President of C-Fam. Defend the Holy See at the UN by signing the C-Fam petition here.

🗞 The CEO of the Rockefeller Foundation said we need to “abandon anthropocentrism” when trying to solve global problems. At a UN meeting on the Pact for the Future, Stephen Heintz argued that placing the needs of human beings at the center of the discussion when addressing the world’s crises could interfere with the “full appreciation of all communities of life on our planet.”

🗞 The Guardian described the pro-life advocates at the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) as “anti-rights” and “taking up oxygen”. Liana Gordan from Campaign Life Coalition breaks down some of their disingenuous claims here.

International

🗞 The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) expresses concern that prenatal testing leads to discrimination against persons with disabilities. In its communication with the Canadian governments, CRPD said that it “recommends that the State Party [Canada], in close consultation and active involvement of persons with disabilities, through their representative organizations:

...(b)      Ensure that prospective parents undergoing prenatal screening are provided with comprehensive information and non-directive counselling that does not promote stereotypes about persons with disabilities, including persons with Down syndrome, or values associated with a medical model of disability.

🗞 CEO of a leading pro-abortion advocacy group advertises an event on overpopulation. Population Connection CEO John Seager is set to deliver a presentation on “the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to stabilize global population.” The event, “Deadly Silence: Ignoring Overpopulation Risks the Future of Our Living Planet” is set to take place on April 22, during International Earth Day.

🗞 Cathedrals and churches in Mexico were vandalized during International Women’s Day marches. “During marches held March 8 to commemorate International Women’s Day, various Catholic cathedrals and churches in Mexico were vandalized with graffiti on their walls and damage to their structures.” You can find the story here.

🗞 How the EU funds NGOs to promote itself. The Hungarian Research Institute MCC Brussels released a report warning that the EU is weaponizing its partnership with NGOs to impose a one-sided agenda. “The European Commission’s systematic use of NGOs as a vehicle for advancing its political objectives poses a dual threat. On one hand, it undermines democracy by skewing public debate and marginalising dissenting voices, while promoting a one-sided agenda under the guise of ‘civil-society engagement’. By leveraging its budgetary tools, the EU has effectively weaponised civil-society organisations, turning them into instruments of institutional propaganda under the pretence of promoting shared ‘values’ such as democracy, the rule of law and fundamental rights.” To read the full report, head over here.
