Beyond November 5th

All eyes are now on the upcoming presidential election in the US. The media has played no small part in amplifying an alarmist rhetoric around the election, suggesting we are facing "the most important election of our time." However, is this really true? Are we truly confronted with a vote that will determine the future of our society? I believe not. This is not the most crucial election of our lives, and recognizing this can provide us with the calmness and perspective needed to wisely face what lies ahead.

Donald Trump, at 78 years old, is facing his second presidential opportunity, while Kamala Harris, at 60, will be seeking her first term.

Each election cycle brings with it the same apocalyptic sentiment that "this is the defining moment." However, history shows that we have navigated through similar events, each with its own tensions and challenges, without the world totally collapsing over a single election. I do not wish to diminish the significance of an election, but we must remember that life and the common good do not depend solely on the occupant of the White House. That said, this conclusion does not mean we should ignore the importance of choosing the right person for the job.

As Christians conservatives, we cannot deny our concerns regarding the potential presidency of Kamala Harris. Her positions and actions in favor of abortion—including her assertion that it is a "constitutional right" and her votes against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act—do not align with our values. Let us also recall that she was the first Vice President to make an official visit to an abortion clinic. Her policies and rhetoric clash with the principles of life and human dignity that we believe in. This is not merely an ideological issue; it is a matter of fundamental values, the same values that Harris publicly dismissed when she told young Christians at a rally that they were "in the wrong place."

Despite these fears, it is essential to remember that the future of our children and our society does not rest solely on the shoulders of a president. Our role as parents, citizens, and believers extends far beyond any presidential election. The true transformation of society begins at home, in the education of our children, in the transmission of Christian and conservative principles. As long as we, as families, remain committed to instilling values of respect, responsibility, and love for life in our children, we are engaging in the most significant political act there is. That education will be our genuine defense against policies that undermine fundamental principles.
